Teaching Philosophy

I believe visual arts education gives students a space to explore their ideas, build confidence, and develop creative and critical thinking skills that extend beyond the art room. In my classroom, I value hands-on learning, experimentation, and revision, and I strive to create a supportive environment where students feel safe to take risks and express themselves.
My teaching is grounded in the belief that every student can succeed when given clear structure, encouragement, and meaningful choices. I use modeling, visual supports, rubrics, and differentiated instruction to meet students where they are and help them grow. I also believe strong relationships, consistent routines, and a positive classroom culture are essential to student success.
I am especially committed to inclusive and culturally responsive teaching. My experiences in diverse school communities have shown me the importance of honoring students’ backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences. I want my classroom to feel like a community where students are respected, connected, and supported.
I also believe art education helps students understand both the past and the present. Art reflects culture, history, and contemporary life, and studying it helps students see the world from new perspectives. My goal is to help students leave my classroom with stronger skills, greater confidence, and a deeper appreciation for the role art plays in their lives and communities.
